Pregnancy following uterine polyp removal

Anonymous
I am having a D&C done this Wednesday to remove a polyp and I am super nervous about it. I am glad I found this website and saw lots of positive posts about the success of the removal of polyps. I have 1 polyp about 1cm in diameter and I also have endometriosis stage 4. I am hoping for successful natural conception post surgery. My doctor feels confident that I should be able to conceive even with my condition after the removal of the polyp. It seems as though it isn't too painful either which is comforting. Good luck to all the women that have posted before me. I also hope for success.

Omgosh I just stumbled on this thread in recent topics and this explains it! Two years ago this March, I was a 39 year old mom of 21 and 17 year old dd's. I went into the office for a polyp removal and had a big old surprise 2 months later! My conception date was just a week after removal. My wonderful son just needed the roadblocks removed!

Anonymous wrote:I had a polyp removed and eventually conceived naturally (I am in my second trimester now), although it took over 2 years. However, my husband was deployed to Iraq for some of this time. Minus his deployment time, I would say conceiving naturally took about a year after the polyp removal. My doctor's theory was that the polyp was inhibiting implantation. Once removed however, he thought I had unexplained infertility. We decided to give it a year before starting IUI and got pregnant naturaylly the cycle before we were scheduled to start!

Hi-

I am the above poster replying to the original post a while back. Well, the baby that I was pregnant with is now 16 months old, and I'm pregnant again. So my opinion is that removing the polyp was very successful!

I just had a hysteroscopy a few days ago to have 5 polyps removed (2 larger ones and 3 medium/smaller ones). Recovery was easy. My surgery was on Friday so I relaxed all weekend and was back at work on Monday. It was nice to have my husband wait on me! Some cramping and bleeding, but not too bad. I also had endometriosis removed 2 years ago and have also been having on again/off again large ovarian cysts for the past 3 years. My husband and I have been ttc for almost 4 years now (I'm 30). We have made a personal choice not to pursue treatments beyond medication. We had actually started looking into adoption when I found out about the polyps and the possible effects they were having, so we put adoption on hold and decided to see if removing the polyps will solve our problem...so now we just need to give it time! While it's not good to hear other people's bad news , it's nice to know that there are other women out there who are going through similar experiences and have a happy ending! Good luck to all who are ttc!

I had a uterine polyp removed, along with two dermoid ovarian cysts in October 2008. the next month I was pregnant and my son was born 9 months later. Before that we'd been trying for six months with no success.

Hi everyone, this forum has been so informative! I, like many of you ladies, have a polyp/fibroid that may have been preventing successful pregnancies. My husband and I have been trying to conceive for about 15 months now, and had two chemical pregnancies back to back the first two months we tried, and no conceptions since. It has been a long and mysterious road, wondering why we seemingly can conceive, but haven't since the last chemical a year ago. I had a sonohysterogram last summer at my gynecologist's office since I was having a lot of pre-period spotting, and nothing showed up.

Well, fast-forward six months and we finally made it to an RE, where on my CD3 ultrasound and my HSG, a sizable polyp (or possible fibroid) showed up. All of our other test results have been normal, though my doctor thinks I may have endometriosis. I have a follow up appointment in two weeks where I'll schedule the removal of the polyp/fibroid and then I suppose we'll either try naturally or move on to IUI. All of the success stories on here have given me the first hope I've had in many months, so thank you very much!

I had polyps removed as well as a pedunculated fibroid removed (separate procedures) and had a history of ovarian cysts -- although 2 of my 3 pregnancies ended in m/c, we have a beautiful DC conceived naturally (and surprisingly, after several failed IVF's). Don't give up -- do stay positive -- and good luck.

I'm 40 had a etopic pregnancy in jun2010 and a miscarriage Sept 2011 and changed doctors then found a polyup on uterus had it removed Feb 16th so now my husband and I are ttc again. I know the polyup had something to do with all this.

Hi, I'm new to the forum and thankful to have read all your posts. I'm in my mid 30's - My husband and I have been trying for over three years. I saw a fertlity specialist a year ago and did IUI 4 times (2 times with injections). The doc recommended I do the hysteroscopy and he removed a small polyp during it. I discovered I had a fibriod and had that removed at the end of last year via a c-section surgery. we took the holidays off to recover and my first month back doing inejctions & IUI, the ultrasound showed another polyp. I am putting my fertility process on hold until I figure out next steps. This has been an emotional rollercoaster and really makes me thankful for everything I have in my life, esp. my husband. There are days when this seems to preoccupy my thoughts. I'm excited and anxious for the next chapter in my life! I wish all of you the very best! Thanks again for sharing your stories.
