The parents from other countries are reading this thread with amusement. Their kids speak 2-4 languages already.

If only everyone in America got a high school diploma and graduated (not just attended) college... we’d be much better off!

Where do you think the student loan crisscross came from? It I should from students who have no business being in college racking up debt. No, everyone should not go to college.

I am one of those (parent from another country) and am laughing at this thread because it is so obvious that colleges are milking you dry for something you don't really need. If you want to learn a language, go for it. Heck! Learn 2! However, it is absolutely not needed in the US for 99% of the white collar jobs.

Serious question - what if your kids already do speak another language fluently, even if they grew up with it? Does that mean the schools no longer look to see if you took a language? I also find it bizarre that admissions committees look at language classes at all unless it's for humanities majors??

Not everyone should go, but those who do should graduate.
