Yes, one person ruined it for the rest of us. |
There shall be no fun on DCUM! According to the hall monitors. |
Did you poll everyone who read the thread to determine the balance on that? All you know is that you were frustrated, the rest is your self-centered assumptions. |
That one I remember. The harm was that the OP couldn't get an answer to her question because the thread became dominated by people making jokes. Moreover, some of the posters got down right nasty in their responses. Nobody wants to start a thread only to ridiculed for the entire thread. |
There were a lot of people frustrated by the deletions. I think there was also a follow-up thread in website feedback about the deletions. I guess the frustrating part is there is no recourse. If 9/10 people are good with the direction of the thread and 1/10 is not, it really sucks when the 1/10 makes the decision for all. And there wasn’t anything inherently negative in the thread. Just a little off-topic. Anyway, it’s done. I try not to put too much effort into those threads now because it’s too frustrating when it all gets deleted. |
Are you aware that you can simply not open or read them? I don't understand this line of thinking. I can't stand sports myself, do I A) not read the sports forums or B) ask the site owner to ban all sports threads? ![]() |
Not enough COVID content. |
I've had things deleted and then later, when it became obvious that what I was saying was true, people who made similar comments didn't hsve their content deleted. But I don't get upset about it because content moderation in a world of fake news, foreign manipulation, etc is very difficult. I make mistakes at work all the time and Jeff does too. But I don't just give up, because getting some things right makes sure that the general quality improves, and that is how I view DCUM content moderation.
I'm actually stunned that Jeff doesn't delete the insults aimed at him. He wouldn't allow an insult to be aimed at me- he would delete it- and i wish he maintained those lines for himself. Oh and PS, I am a Trump supporter so don't come back and say I'm a liberal SJW who just sides with Jeff. It's possible to disagree with someone's views while respecting their dignity. |
I actually am semi-interested in royal stuff. Those threads are not light-hearted discussions about that topic though. They are hard-core 100000% mega crazy town. Some racism. But soooooo much crazy. So, yes, I avoid them as much as I can. ![]() |
+1 I know if I were in charge then I would be deleting those posts against me so I admire his restraint. I don't think I could do it. I really enjoy DCUM and I like the robust discussions, even when I disagree with other posters. Life would be really boring if we all were the same. Look at the two of us here. You're a Trump supporter and I'm not but we are still able to find common ground. |
I love the threads that derail to jokes! Some of the humor and quick wit of the posters here is one of my favorite parts of DCUM. |
In many cases, I agree. But not in this case. First of all, the Food forum is (or maybe I should say was) a fairly serious forum where you can expect good advice. Second, the jokes really weren't very funny. And, as I said, some posts were just mean. Other than about one post, very little quick wit and real humor were demonstrated. |
+100 This is what I will never understand. I can't stand sports either, and so I never visit the Sports forum. It's incredible to me that someone who is not interested in a topic can't find the self-control to merely SKIP OVER THE THREAD IN QUESTION. The people complaining constantly about the royal threads (or anything else that doesn't interest them) are the most self-centered, lazy imbeciles. JUST DON'T CLICK ON IT. |
The people who are the most annoying on DCUM are the posters who feel they can speak for Jeff on Website Feedback. If I start a thread there with a question specifying Jeff, I don’t need his sycophants jumping in to breathlessly insult me while lecturing me on why Jeff did this or that. Frankly, there should be a thread in which we can speak directly to Jeff without having to deal with his toadies at all.
Those are the *true* teacher’s pets/hall monitor types. |
I like royal. I don’t like crazy. Those threads are magnets for the crazies and racists. That’s why they should be banned IMO. |
