Good question. Melania's father was the Communist Party leader in their town. He was issued a car which was a rare luxury in the USSR. She grew up relatively privileged. I did some research a couple of years ago and found out being a USSR Communist leader does not make one ineligible for entry and citizenship in the U.S. The following article acknowledges he was a Commie but glosses over it. The Trumps have done a good job getting this minimized on the internet.
