LOL, we were not interested in ivy league...just maybe a top 20 or even 30. How does SJC do in top 20 college placement? I guess we will never know.

You clearly would not be happy at St.John’s. You do not embody their mission and vision. It’s good you went elsewhere.

What IS the mission and vision? If it is about service to the community as they say, then DS ended up in a place very well known for that and did quite well. Difference is he also had better opportunities beyond high school because of the excellent academic reputation of the school. I don't think SJC is quite there yet. Or at least, they haven't been able to communicate that to prospective students. I am genuinely interested...I have another child (a girl) approaching high school age. I want to know if she even would have a chance of getting into her dream college (not an ivy) if she attends SJC. How many kids ended up at this college in the past year, 3 years. It is such a mystery!

Oh so you don’t even know the mission and vision of St John’s. I mean you said you seriously considered it for your son but obviously you didn’t because you don’t even know the mission and vision of the school. I’m not sure why you just came on here to bash St johns you have some crazy agenda and it’s sad. I’ll pray for you.

God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.

I know what I read online and what we were told at the scholars brunch. But just hoping to get clarification from sjc parents on this forum. Also where are those graduating students going? Would love to solve the mystery.

It’s not a mystery. Call the school ask them for the list.

The list was distributed at the open house, however, it was not very detailed in terms of time frame and number of students. Useless information.

If they're being cagey about the numbers it means they're not great. Which makes sense. St Johns is a decent school but it's not elite. It's known as the Catholic Wilson. A few athletes will get into top schools. The vast majority of the 250 will go to schools ranked 50-500.

They are not cagey, nobody has actually called and asked for the information.

Yes the majority of students go to schools <50, so do the majority of students at every other school.

Why are you being so rude to Wilson? If you think it's okay to talk down about Wilson, you would not fit in at STJ.

huh. Im not being rude to Wilson. I have a kid there. I'm just saying that St Johns is similar--there will be a few students who go to top schools and many that don't. Different than the elite or big3 privates who will send 20% to top 10 schools and 50% to top 50.

huh. I wasn't being rude at all. Simply speaking facts as I know them. I don't get this at all. St. Johns has often been compared to Wilson. That is not a jab on either school.

SJC isn't an elite or big 3. No one (including me) sends their child there thinking that is what they are doing. I would assume as a Wilson parent (I am one of those also) you didn't choose it thinking it was elite or big 3. Everyone goes in with their eyes wide open to most high schools. Focus on your kid and where your kid is happy. Don't worry about the our kids who are happy at SJC and have gone on to great colleges.

Once again, SJC isn’t the Catholic school known for its academics. Not to say academics aren’t strong but they are now like DeMatha, athletic powerhouse.

So Dematha is one of the best private schools academically in the richest majority African-American counties in the world.

So clearly you don’t know what you’re talking about

NP.

Literal translation: DeMatha is one of the best academic high schools in Prince Georges County.

Okay then.

Stop reaching for a fight. Read the statement. OP is saying and communication what the school is known for. DeMatha is called the powerhouse. IMG doesn’t play DeMatha for Its Academics. Try again

Where does DeMatha rank when comparing all Catholic Schools in DMV?
