It's crazy to me that the military would go along with this. I took some comfort in believing that the military would be the final barrier between Trump and doing something really dumb like launching nukes, but this casts doubt on that. I hate Trump as much as the next dem but this is the first thing that makes me truly want to see him locked up and have his ill-gotten gains confiscated.

An Air Force spokesperson defended the move saying that Trump's property was the closest that provided a government-rate of $136/night. Trump's property must be doing pretty bad.

Globemasters aren’t like flying commercial. They’re slower, wayyyyyy louder inside, and generally are about as comfortable as riding on a wood bench in the back of a moving truck. I’d be thrilled at the prospect of a sauna dip and a comfy bed after 6,000 miles on a C17.

I think this has been a valuable lesson (if a predictable one). Many of the constraints on this kind of thing were norm and not law. We probably need more laws. Additionally, we need to elect people who won't do this.

Every day under Trump makes me long more for a president Warren. She seems as close to a President Bartlet as we are going to get.

And what will be the result of this investigation? More whitewashing. This investigation was ordered to prove that the military did nothing wrong by spending taxpayer dollars at the President’s own resort. It will require an acrobatic feat of twisting themselves up in knots, but that will be the outcome.
