We both work so it's on and off who is home first.
I always attempt to give an enthusiastic "Hi honey" and I look over and smile. I acknowledge he has walked in the house. Usually I am cooking if I am home first, so no I don't stop that to go over and greet him. I think what is 1950s about this post is the assumption that the wife is the one home first or always to greet the husband. Why wouldn't you ask it in a gender neutral way? "Do you greet your spouse at the door if you are home first?" is a reasonable question. |
Neither. My husband is more affectionate than me with hugs but it's normal in our house. Married 16 years. |
Same but cats. The kids sometimes. |
| When I come home, I like to yell "I'M HOME!" Whoever is in the house gives me a nice cheer. |
| No but I scream “Baby!!!” in a high pitched squeal when I hear him come in. |
+1 his days at work are usually tough. It’s nice to see a happy face and receive a kiss |

After work, my wife always greets me at the door with a hug & kiss, then she loosens my laces to slip out of my shoes. Always.
If she goes shopping while I’m at home, I meet her at the car in the garage after her return to greet her and help carry items into the house. Mid forties, second marriage for us both, eleven years together. Very different from our first marriages, very loving and much respect. |
| Our counselor said I should meet him at the door wearing nothing but saran wrap, it's made a world of difference! |
| My husband greets me at the door when I get home from work. |
Unless you have severe back pain or a physical disability, this doesn’t seem very respectful toward your wife. It is a very servile gesture. |
The 1970s discovered this thread! |

Dh comes into the kitchen. We say hi and kiss. Then the dog gets a pet. But I don't go to the door and he can put his own stuff away. |
| No, but my husband greets me. |
Maybe the 1970s got something right. |
