Families of 3, how big is your house?

Jealous! We are a family of three plus a (small) dog. The space doesn’t feel cramped but I wish there was more storage for all the toys.

2,600 for 2 adults and 1 kid. Three bedrooms upstairs - one is DH's office who works from home frequently. Basement has a playroom which doesn't get used much and guest room which is only used a few times a year. Sometimes it feels a bit big since we rarely use our basement space but its nice to have when we need it.

We were in 915sq ft and it was fine. Once we became 4 it became tight, so we moved to a 1600 sq ft house. We’re good. A lot depends on planning and storage space.

2200 sq ft with another 600 or so finished in the basement. 2 adults 1 child. Feels just right although there are 2 rooms that are completely unused (unless we have overnight guests).

Wow - i am impressed with the amount of space some of you are living in with your family. We are in a 4000 sq foot house (one kid, one dog) and feel it's too small. We don't have a lot of "stuff", but would like more space/better layout. We looked at a house with 6000 sq feet, but it was a little too big (four levels).

2500 sqft+1000 sqft basement. That's enough for a family of 3. Unfortunately the newer houses in the close-in areas are all so big...

WOW, I don't get why you need that much stuff and that much space for one child and one dog.

3500sqft. Not a ton of rooms, but all are spacious, including baths, beds, closets and hallways.

Can I get an invite? Sounds like one of those pleasure palaces the Astors and Vanderbilts used to have!

3000 sq ft townhome for me, DH and toddler. Looking to move to 4000-ish sq ft home after we have another baby. These other homes mentioned sound so cramped and undesirable. I need high ceilings and space!

We have a lot more than this with one child and one dog. We certainly don't 'need' it as you say but this is where we want to live and the houses are this size and other than a couple of bedrooms we use it all very regularly. We have a big lot and are in the woods and near the river both of which we use a lot.

These threads always devolve into big house shaming, killing the planet, wasting resources then conversations about new houses being more energy efficient. When it's all said and done while we didn't do the math as part of any plan, we only have one kid which probably more than offsets our housing choice so I think we are even.

Yes agree with PP nobody needs a big house or have a bunch of kids or all the other random crap.. these are all choices and people need to own up and stop judging others
