Wow - i am impressed with the amount of space some of you are living in with your family. We are in a 4000 sq foot house (one kid, one dog) and feel it's too small. We don't have a lot of "stuff", but would like more space/better layout. We looked at a house with 6000 sq feet, but it was a little too big (four levels).
WOW, I don't get why you need that much stuff and that much space for one child and one dog.
We have a lot more than this with one child and one dog. We certainly don't 'need' it as you say but this is where we want to live and the houses are this size and other than a couple of bedrooms we use it all very regularly. We have a big lot and are in the woods and near the river both of which we use a lot. These threads always devolve into big house shaming, killing the planet, wasting resources then conversations about new houses being more energy efficient. When it's all said and done while we didn't do the math as part of any plan, we only have one kid which probably more than offsets our housing choice so I think we are even.
