This is really a dumb idea. Creates disputes between neighbors and random people that can escalate to something bad. What about the driver who stops for 3 minutes to buy something at the store and who parks illegally for those 3 minutes. A busy body who has nothing else to do decides to ticket that person.

That person is illegally parking and they should be ticketed. Probably towed, too.

Get a life!! I have lived in large cities all over the world, most of them larger than DC. Cities include cars. Deal with them! Too many busy bodies in DC.

Cities also are developing newer and better ways to enforece laws against drivers who violate them. This is one experiment for doing so. We will see how it works.

Why are all of these things going to happen?

You sound like a bike owner (wow that makes you special?!?) who doesn't bike.

People will submit a time stamped photo, probably via an app, that will clearly show a parking violation. Then the city will issue a citation via the mail.

Why will this be a shitshow with horrible arguments, self righteousness and threats of legal action?

Everyone waiting for the bus with me in the morning has their phones out - when you run into Starbucks and block the bus zone for 10 minutes while you get your latte there will be a posse of people with cellphones and a legitimate grievance about your selfish behavior all happy to take a photo and submit it in the hopes you get a ticket for being an a$$hole.

Since you are a "bike owner" no doubt you know it is already a shitshow on our streets with drivers who completely disregard the cities parking (and driving laws) - it is unclear to me how trying to enforce those laws is somehow going to make it worse?
