Sorry, nope. HHI off $142K - we definitely paid more in taxes than we ever have. Go away Mr. Republican Booster, the tax cut was a terrible piece of crap policy that is truly only benefitting the rich. stop spinning, no one but your fellow 1%ers are buying it. You suck. |
| I'm a single professional, self-employed, taxes went up though my income dropped 10%. No AMT but no SALT deductions. out about 5000 versus projections |
DP but I posted earlier. My taxes went up and I am a 1%er. Maybe it’s benefitting people at the top of the 1% but not all of us. |
Well we were on track to pay about 15k more in taxes. Trump forced us to shelter money. We were prudent (because we can be) and we won in the end. It still sucks to be poor in Trumps America. Unfortunately....most Americans are stupid.

We make around $130 K HHI with two kids. We paid about $2K less. Went from around $11K in 17 to $9K this year.
I still have plenty of reasons to dislike this administration and Republicans in Congress. But I don't feel any need to deny that we got a tax cut. It's pretty indisputable that the tax cut did very little for the "working class real Americans" who make around $70K per year that Trump constantly panders to. But that won't make any difference as their support for him isn't based on facts. |
You realize it's just a copy and past of a NY Times article, no? I think you can spot us that very few people have greater tax liability under 2018 law than under 2017 law. Obviously, you could be one of the 6%. But at that income I am skeptical your obligation under 2018 law is more than a smidgeon higher, and if it is, I'm OK with not subsidizing whatever it was you were doing to get to such a high deduction. |
| This talk of “subsidization” is asinine given the fact that it’s all going on credit. None of us are “subsidizing” each other. Our kids are the ones who will inherit our tax policy mistakes. |
You have to be rich to be able to play games like this with your money in the first place. Someone with a 150k HHI from working and 3 kids living around here --they need all their money for life and modest savings and apparently paying the tax man. |
99% American families meeting that description paid LESS in taxes. They probably have a 401k and maybe even 529 plans, and they are quite happy to see them grow significantly. |
| Let's take up this thought experiment. If a family paid 22 percent rather than 24 percent this year (these are random percentages for a hypothetical situation) and did not change their exceptions and got hit with a 10k tax when they have paid nothing in the past and even gotten a refund in the past, then that is bad administration and implementation. The government should be taken to task for it. |
That's almost exactly our HHI and we also have 3 kids. We have tiny VA 529s that have done poorly (they are set on a target year). We have tiny 401ks (no employer match) that have been up and down. Frankly, we don't have the extra income every month to save and invest. You seem a little delusional on COL. |
Evidence to support your claim? At least three families in that range have posted on here that they are paying MORE this year. |
| we paid more in whatever, due to deductions, sugar coat it, shake it, only rich and corporate benefit. Why is Amazon not paying taxes? |
See NYT article and non-partisan report they quote. H&R Block has also released data, but that sounds too good to be true (they claim all taxpayers they processed paid on average 25% less) |
(sigh) Because corporations never pay taxes. If they are "taxed" all they do is charge their customers more to compensate, and thus YOU (the customer) wind up paying their taxes for them. |
