What are you getting your 12 year old daughter for Valentine's Day?

Nothing.

It’s mindboggling how people in this country buy at the slightest provocation.

+1 too much $ and not enough sense.

Nothing. Also nothing for Halloween and St. Patrick’s Day. Still don’t understand why people get their kids things for these holidays.

Not all love is romantic or sexual in nature.

I still get cards from my parents (my dad almost always sends a Peanuts card). As a kid, my parents usually gave me and my brother a box of Sweethearts and a box of four chocolate-covered marshmallow hearts from Fannie May (there was a store across the street from our house). Nothing romantic or icky about it.

This year we are giving DD (14) a box of chocolates (she LOVES chocolate), a teddy bear that was free with the purchase of 3 cards, and a humor book that features her favorite animal.

We are having a family favorite dinner tonight. I made DH his favorite cookies, and DD and I will bake a batch of brownies this afternoon. And I bought my favorite flowers (not roses) for the table when I went grocery shopping earlier in the week.

I hate a lot about Valentine's Day. I choose to counter the forced romance by celebrating family and friends. And I hope that DD feels loved and doesn't feel the "need" for a romantic partner to "complete her". Ugh.

Since when did Valentines' day become a smaller version of Christmas for kids?

+1.

Well, I'm forty and my low key parents always got us small heart boxes of chocolates or little trinkets and cards growing up. I don't think it's a new thing, although I'm sure not every family does it.

Ok, St Patrick’s Day and Halloween are not gift giving “holidays”...
Valentines Day is...people are listing small things, chocolates, cards, etc.
No one is blowing a budget, geez

My 13 year old is making valentine jars for her friends tonight. A little jelly jar filled with chocolates, chapstick, and maybe a scrunchie. Those are so on trend again.

I hate the phrase “on trend”.

How is it on trend? That is what we all had when we were 13. Those are just staples.

No they haven’t been stables for 25 years. They are trending again (is that better?).

How about: they are popular again, girls are using them again, lots of girls like them, etc?

Because I wanted gift ideas for my daughter.

My mom always got us a gift for Valentine's. One year was roller skates. Another year was hermit crabs. I never heard of gifts for Halloween or St. Patrick's Day, nor do I think it's required for Valentine's Day. It's just what I do b/c it was a tradition in my family.

I got my girls chocolate, small mermaid sequin bags, and inexpensive birthstone necklaces.

My mom sent them each a shirt and socks and some lip gloss as well as some of my old jewelry from childhood that I can pass on to them. She sent me a notepad and book.

My husband and I really don't do Valentine's Day, which I'm fine with.

Happy Valentine's Day!

How about you get agitated over something that really matters? And remove the stick from your ass?

My MIL buys gifts for my kids for all those holidays. I still think it’s stupid. To each their own though.
