The MyLife scam site already knows my sister recently divorced. How did it find that out so quickly?

I emailed MyLife asking them to take down certain information (salary and political affiliation). I told them they had a week to take it down otherwise my lawyer would contact them. My entire profile was taken down the next day.

But what about the other dozen or so similar sites out there?

If OP has beef, her beef should be with either users who willingly give up/sign on into these social media websites and these websites themselves. Government websites (such as the Maryland court case lookup or Fairfax county property tax look up) are also subject to these "scam" sites.

The issue is that the sites often seem to be either guessing, or mixing people up, or both - common name or not. That is incorrect information. Also, the sites allude to the fact that someone is a criminal. when they are not - so yeah, they are definitely opening themselves up to a lawsuit or two, or thousands.

+1 And if you read earlier posts in this thread-the site often threatens people that they have "negative reputation information" on their profile and try to encourage them to pay $ to rid their profile of this info, when no negative information exists.

Apparently every single person has a criminal record.

The difference is some people have an "empty" criminal record while others have a criminal record that is "full" of offense/offenses.

^ The above was explained to me by a law student when I was in college.

We were both sober during the conversation.

Not impossible. My husband had both of our identities removed pretty easily. He sent a strongly worded email. He is an attorney, and he wrote it "as my attorney" He did it for himself too and I'm not sure how he phrased that one. I just pulled up the email he wrote and his letter was about how it said I had court/criminal records, which is untrue and misleading. Almost everyone is flagged with that and it's likely about a speeding ticket somewhere.

It was removed within a few days and has not resurfaced.

Technically, a speeding ticket is criminal activity.

Oh dear lord. It’s a civil offense. Don’t be ridiculous and please don’t share your “expertise” with us.

Offense = criminal.

People have warrants issued for their arrest over speeding tickets.

Look it up. Google it.
