Yeah but they had plenty of warnings including the N weather service. |
What does HCPS do about the calendar that MCPS doesn't do? What does MCPS do about the calendar that HCPS doesn't do? Please be specific. |
MCPS announces delay: WHAT? TERRIBLE DECISION! MCPS IS SO AWFUL!!!!!!!!!!! MCPS announces on-time start: WHAT? TERRIBLE DECISION! MCPS IS SO AWFUL!!!!!!!!!!! MCPS announces closure: WHAT? TERRIBLE DECISION! MCPS IS SO AWFUL!!!!!!!!!!! MCPS announces early dismissal: WHAT? TERRIBLE DECISION! MCPS IS SO AWFUL!!!!!!!!!!! |
I would like to see a side by side comparison too. PS. I love the after Labor Day start date. Hope it sticks. |
| Op here. I called it. |
Exactly. DCUM will bitch no matter what the call. FWIW, I’m in the “they should have closed” camp, but I’m not bitter or worked up about it. |
You get 7 internet points! |
MCPS: last day of school 6/14, no provision for extending due to snow days. Half-week for Spring Break (Wednesday-Friday, then Monday as mandated by law). 4/17-4/22 HCPS: last day of school 6/17, extendable to 6/21 due to snow days. Full week for spring break (6 schooldays), 6/13-6/22. |
|
| But you post the same thing every day. |
So... MoCo just needs to file for a waiver that says "We can go to 6/21 if there's lots of snow"? That seems too easy. There's gotta be more to it. |
Pretty much!! |
| To bad they didn't trust original decision. Snow ending, roads will be better in 2.5 hours then they are now. |
But why can HoCo extend to 6/21 and MoCo has to finish the week before? |
You are lacking context: When: Some rural parts of MCPS are dealing with black ice on the road while all urban areas are beautifully plowed and see no reasons for any delays: MCPS announces delay: WHAT? TERRIBLE DECISION! MCPS IS SO AWFUL!!!!!!!!!!! When:There is light snow and everybody can see that this is going to turn to something bigger and we all will be sorry when they will have to early release (see today's example for reference): MCPS announces on-time start: WHAT? TERRIBLE DECISION! MCPS IS SO AWFUL!!!!!!!!!!! When: There is a major storm coming and million foots of snow are being dropped on the way, you wake up in the morning thinking nothing will happen but weather forecast know it will be heavy at 12Pm and on.. MCPS announces closure: WHAT? TERRIBLE DECISION! MCPS IS SO AWFUL!!!!!!!!!!! When: Tinny snow is falling but the forecast predicts that it will be messy right at 3PM when all the kids will be on their busses on the way home slipping and sliding.. MCPS announces early dismissal: WHAT? TERRIBLE DECISION! MCPS IS SO AWFUL!!!!!!!!!!! At the end of the day, nobody will ever make every single parent happy. Nobody. Ever. This is why sometimes more parents are happy sometimes less but eventually it is all about kids safety not parents satsisfaction. Most of the parents would love to send off kids and forget about them for the rest of the day and ANY irragularity is bad thing. It is given that we all like comfort and regular predictible scheadule is part of it but please, next time you whine plase please say to yourself: "maybe my kid will be fine tomorrow but maybe some other child who lives in some area could slip, slide and break something, or a bus accident could endanger many kids. Why can't you think about everybody's safety being equal? Maybe it is fine in Clarksburg today and messy in Bethesda, but maybe the opposite is true the next snow day. So untill we have a divided MCPS to smaller districts and untill we have better climate, we need to care for eveyrone and it is sad when parents say that it is ridiculous when school close for one area. For now every area is not just a space, it is children. My kid and your kid, and they are both precous. Maybe today your work day suffers, maybe tomorrow mine will. Untill it is all perfect let's thank MCPS folks who are banding backwards trying to make everybody happy while they try to prevent accidents and keep kids safe. It is becasue of most whinning parents they hold off the decissions to the last minute. Imagine them doign it early and making mistakes more often? That would be an uproar. |
