If I am full pay, am I a sucker?

And there is little or no merit offered at the schools which our DS would like to attend. He has already been accepted at his first choice (top 20) school. Clearly, we will be full pay. But with an income of $800K plus, shouldn't we be? I don't see how anyone can call us suckers, when we make probably twice or more what most people on this forum make. He has been offered some merit at one of his safeties, but minimal, and certainly not worth the investment on our part. Still waiting to hear from some other schools.

LOL @ income of 800k... dumba$$... you answered your own question.

This is the sucker - OOS public? Why would u pay full price?

PP, so in other words, you regret that your kid wasn't either good enough or interested enough to end up at an ivy, and as such you think they are second-rate and not worth your full support?

My lovely son wasn't ivy material either. He is attending an OOS flagship that is a much better fit for him than our in-state flagship. We like the program better where he has chosen to go. We think it is a much better fit for him and for our family goal of leaving this area. What on earth could be the problem? I most certainly do not feel like a sucker.

Glad to know you make over $1M. I wish you liked your kid better.

+1

Why not go in-state? Or try for a merit award?

You are obviously highly successful at something. Seems sad to me that you are taking a poll from strangers about whether or not you are a sucker.

I would see someone about why you need this validation about your kid's college choice.

Me successful? LOL!! Yeah, I was successful at nabbing a successful and strong earner for a spouse.

Sorry, thought it was "your" income.

You are a dependent, like your child.

Maybe it is your spouse who is the sucker? Supporting a presumably healthy adult

Haha...that's cute. Yes I am fine with that truly. I enjoy going to yoga classes and getting my nails done. It's fun and relaxing. I worked for many years before this though! Ciao!

Ever consider what that "lifestyle" choice is teaching your daughters (and sons) about women, and their role in society?

Honey, I am still raising a 10 year old. I much prefer being there for my kids. I am comfortable with it, and they are too. Do you want this to get into a discussion about stay at home vs. work out of home? I will end it at that because those discussions are ridiculous and a waste of time.

Agree with this.

And whose kid is likely to have a broader range of high-status options than kids with the same stats whose parents can’t afford full pay.

More like top 5%. Need-based aid cuts off at ~$200K for top schools. The top 5% earn about $250K annually.

A lot of those 5% are in major metros like DC. I mean cmon if both parents work you should be making over 100k by the time you are 50.

These suckers donate millions in hopes of giving their kid an opportunity at a full pay slot at a top 10. These people are too clueless to realize that Stanford is no different from Bama.

So...you think, for instance, teachers make $100k? You seem bright.
