I am so sorry you are going through this OP. It is a horrible place to be. I have a 17 yr old, that was in the same place. It started in HS and progressively got worse. The courts are involved now, and she is in a home for girls. She is geeting help with therapy and addiction, as well finishing HS in the place. You might want to consider a boys home that has mental and substince abouse programs. Youth for Tomorrow in Bristow was recommended as well as Timberline Knolls in Chicago, both of the place I condsidered. Getting him away from the area/friends is crucial and getting him help is second. Don't worry about school for now, you got to get him help first. He can always get a GED later, or if you find a place for him, he will finish school there.
Please take care of yourself, that is also a very, very important part of helping him. I'm in VA, and our court house has support groups for parents in situations like yourself. If not the courthouse, find another suppport group that can help your through this. Sending you hugs! |
Not true. There are some local ones that don’t require an inpatient stay. Most are short term but I did find two that were long term. |

This place is useless. Bogus. Unhelpful. |
We’re looking for this. Can pls you provide some names? Thanks. (I know the thread is old, but I did a search on this site.) |
Newport Academy is one. I know that a PP dissed this program. But I know people who went there and they had nothing but good things to say. |

This is a tough situation for a parent.
Have you thought of partial day hospitalization? This would be helpful to address the behaviors and medication management evaluation. |
Thanks |
| Sorry for circumstances. Sending hugs to all in this situation. |
