Parent Culture at Sidwell vs. GDS (Upper School)

The poster said they ran into them at other events--not that they talked about it.

Jeez, people.

Highly doubt that this is actually possible. Sounds like OP is coming from another private, in which case they'd likely be declaring a first choice before decisions are made so that their current school's outplacement team can lobby hard for that choice accordingly, essentially conceding admission to the second choice. My sense is that the ability to choose between Sidwell and GDS after having been admitted to both is a near-mythical situation that very few applicants likely enjoy in any given year.

Admitted to and chose b/t Blair, GDS, SFS, and STA. Went with SFS after going to all admit events and shadow days.
Little brother only applied to SFS and GDS, went with SFS.

What factors made them choose SFS?

What an achievement to PP whose child got into Blair, GDS, SFS and STA. Was it easy for your child to rule out one school or another quickly?

Hi thanks, we rec'd sig aid and felt best fit at SFS and GDS. STA, was not our scene, we are not American. Both kids were pretty focused so knew what classes, contests, clubs they wanted to participate in so matched up based on that. SFS and its donors were outstanding at funding science teams, projects, venues to build things, travel, etc.

Our child is now 24 yo and doing masters at same Ivy as his ugrad. He was stem focus in upper school, BS and MS/Phd.

CHild 2 was more social and also STEM at SFS, easier logistics too, he graduated top 25 in class and did a couple sports. Maybe he shouldn't have partied so much. It was a social class with some famous grandkids.

From my limited experience with DC and DC's peers in the last couple of years, it seems that kids either end up choosing between either GDS/SWS or SWS/NCS (or STA), eliminating GDS or NCS pretty quickly if the choice is among the three. GDS and the Cathedrals are different enough that you just know. SWS can appeal to kids who like both NCS or GDS approaches.

Sorry, I meant SFS, not SWS, although my DC had that in the mix too, similar to the PP whose DC had Blair Magnet.
