Exactly - the staff! What do those new houses pay in taxes? Isn't it $1k per $100k? That is a ton of money for a school to be constantly overburdened and overcrowded, with insufficient resources. Maybe it is better than what some PPs have as a point of reference, but that is plain sad.

To elaborate, that means a $2m house pays $20k/year in taxes? And FCPS can't get their sh*t together? That is a disgrace.

You're on quite the little crusade here. Hope it makes you feel better, but it's also pathetic.

What is your issue? If you can't answer a question, move along. It is that simple. Fine if it does not pertain to you. Fine if your life is perfect. Move along then.

DP. Please. The amount you pay in taxes doesn't buy you a better public school experience. Sheesh.

True. My McLean neighborhood barely pays for the cost of the kids in our neighborhood attending public school, nevermind the other half of the county’s budget. Taxes are very low here.

Siblings in NEw England, WIsc, and NJ pay more than 2x our rate.

Really? Our relatives in the midwest and northeast (and south, of course) pay much less - in prestigious areas.

Where?

OP here. Obviously, we rent! But our neighbors pay a LOT.

Hate to break it to you but you are paying your landlord's property taxes for him.

I've heard such great things FCPS and have been extremely disappointed in the administration, lack of communication, trailers "learning cottages", etc... The one bright spot in our FCPS elementary is the SACC program, which is super fun and my child never wants to leave!

Yep, I would guess Haycock too. We have several friends who paid a fortune to purchase a home in this district only to pull their kids for privates in the end. Terrible administration and huge overcrowding problem.

Yes, and if the landlord is original owner, or close to that, then you can tell how much less he is paying in taxes. The $1k per $100k + is for the newer houses.

Same areas. Different experience.

OP, how it is obvious that you rent?

Also, did it occur to you that you are part of the problem? All the renters moving into the good HS districts just in time for their kids to go to high school, thus crowding the local high school, and then moving on right after graduation?

I'll bet you are in a Langley, McLean or Madison neighborhood.

The school the OP is talking about has got to be Cooper Middle School. The principal is just awful - she's been there for an eternity. She doesn't like any parent participation. The catchment area is huge but the school does nothing to make any of the children feel welcome or try to integrate the kids at all.

Langley is not crowded (see the OP), and most McLean and Madison parents are happy with the current leadership teams.

If I had to guess, I'd say Yorktown or Oakton, but who knows (and OP has said she won't say).

Wrong. It is crowded AND dismantled.

Got it. Renters not allowed. Who else isn't allowed? What if I am Asian?
