No, that’s for shallow professionals.
It is always considered an honorable profession.

Doctors marry nurses. They are higher status that any urban professional.

Seriously? You need to get out of the suburbs.

I think the only problem are the hours. My best friend is a nurse and makes great money but she works 12 hour shifts and isn't off on the weekends so we talk on the phone while she's driving into work at 6 am and I'm getting ready for work. By the time she gets home she's tired.

I've had a really rough year and I actually took off work on a Wednesday just so I could see her, sit on her couch and cry. He husband travels for work and they have no kids so her relationship works but I can imagine that would be hard on someone trying to date.

This is a great argument against dating a nurse. There are some nurses who steal pill. Nurses who murder. Nurses who cheat on their taxes. Nurses who cheat on their spouses. Nurses who color outside the lines. Nurses who eat with their mouths open. Nurses who don't say excuse me after they burp. Nurses who pick their nose. Nurses who drink a glass of wine with dinner. Nurses who kill mosquitos. Nurses who leave dishes in the sink after dinner. Nurses who wear push up bras. Nurses who go commando. Nurses who illegally download movies. Nurses who cheat on tests. Nurses who eat oysters.

Do I need to go on?

Nurses who go commando sounds pretty good. Kind of makes up for the illegal movie downloading.

I can't believe there's five pages of this. What a stupid question.

As a man, yes, of course I would date a nurse. Good grief.

This can be said about a number of professionals in different professions.

You seem to have a vendetta against nurses? Did your husband leave you for one?

I do not know anyone who looks down on nurses, except maybe for crabby old men in the hospital bed who get irate when the nurse doesn't fetch & step-it as fast as his liking.

OP here. I don’t think it’s a dumb post, but you’re free to not come on here and post if you feel that way.

I asked this question because I 33, a nurse, and I went on a date with a guy who looked down on me for it. He made rude statements about why anyone would not just become a doctor, and nurses are overpaid for their jobs. I told him I was currently in school for NP, and the derogatory remarks still kept coming until I left. He said things subtly, but I got the hint. Posters in the patent forum a year or two back also commented how their law and finanace careers were way more prestigious and harder than a nurse. It’s nice to see nany posters on this board don’t think that same way!

No. You've misunderstood.

My big long list of stuff nurses do is stuff that EVERYbody does.

I was attempting to point out (maybe it was too dry for you) that saying "There are some really crazy nurses with messed up family lives, divorce after divorce." is ridiculous, just like the list of stuff I subsequently wrote. Like ... trying to suggest you might not date nurses because some nurses drink a glass of wine with dinner. You can't generalize about a set of people based on one attribute -- probably based on a very small number of people you know.

What kind of job does s/he have? That sounds very unusual.

I suspect that they left out some major details or simply inflated the numbers. I know many nurses and not one would come close to 200k @ 2 days /week.

Looks like a duck, sounds like a duck ... probably a duck.

https://money.usnews.com/careers/best-jobs/registered-nurse/salary

"The BLS [U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics] reports the median salary for a registered nurse was $68,450 in 2016. The best-paid 10 percent of RNs made more than $102,990, while the bottom-paid 10 percent earned less than $47,120." And that's for full-time jobs, not less than half time work.

Full time for a nurse is 36 hours per week. 3 shifts X 12 hours.

He's a dumbass. Be glad that he revealed his true colors and walk on.

And that is the reason I descided to not go to nursing school. I had gotten accepted and it was almost a done deal. The thought of picking a profession at that age with a man already in mind was terrifying. So I ended in IT and that worked out good for me
