I need more details please!

And boy do I feel small potatoes with my once a month cleaning service (amazing!) and regular takeout

We went 7 years ago, I think. The two of us, our four adult children (college aged through late 20s) and our SIL. A four week trip. Landed in Cairo during the height of the Arab Spring (the pyramids were so deserted we felt like it was a private tour); from there to the Masai Mara in Kenya, then Rwanda to see the mountain guerrillas, followed by five or six days high-end camping in Botswana (think chandelier over a beautiful dining room table serving a gourmet meal with a private bartender in a tent in the middle of bush country), then Zimbabwe and the Victoria Falls Hotel for a few days, then four days in Cape Town in a luxury hotel. No expense spared. Best money we ever spent.

Wow - that sounds absolutely incredible.

I don't mean to derail this conversation - but was this a trip you'd planned for a decade? How did it come about? How did you save $100k to pay for it?

Our beloved Stokke Xplory stroller. It lasted 10 years, and that was the first version with the repair issue.

Our small house in an expensive neighborhood with a good public school with a great reputation for caring for children with special needs. Now THAT was a splurge if you like. We couldn't really afford it, but we tightened our belt and it was worth the sacrifice.

May I ask what school?

Probably Bethesda ES.

First class air travel. After well over 2 million miles in coach over many years I had had enough. Economy rows are getting tighter and people are getting bigger and that's a bad combination.

LOL. perhaps the 100K was to get them evacuated from the conflict zones. too bad they didn't see gorillas.

Private school! We purposely bought our house in a great SD but when our oldest hit 8th grade - almost out of nowhere - she asked if she could look at some other options for high school. She toured a few, applied, and the rest is history. And then her younger sisters followed in her footsteps. Worth every penny.

OP, please don’t answer this question and turn this thread into a public v. private debate, those happen on the regular in the private school forum.

First class round trip ticket to CA. I was becoming more agitated and fearful flying coach and so was just not flying to visit my family. Now, first class only!
