The kids are likely trying to save you $$ on repairs into your retirement.
They much prefer that money to go into their future college fund. Listen to them -> They are actually wise beyond their years. Good job by the way!! :thumb up: Buy Japanese. Go Honda, Toyota or Subaru. Less money on repairs + holds value on point = Good vehicle investment. Everyone wins!! |
The new ones have a warranty for under $2K - forget the exact amount that is a lifetime warranty for major repairs. |
Sorry you made such a poor decision during your mid life crisis. Perhaps you'll do a better job of picking your grave. |
I mean..."lots of moms" get super-obvious cosmetic surgery in a futile attempt to reclaim their youth but it doesn't make it any less sad. |
| Jeep has really sold this "you are a Jeep person" thing, haven't they? Do you like exploding because of poorly placed gas tanks? If so, buy a Jeep! |
|
I have to giggle when I see people driving these to Target. They are meant to be taken off road. It's like seeing a shiny F250 with no dirt on it parked in the suburbs.
And if you are dying to drive on the beach, rent one for a day while you are there. Drive a regular car for your normal life. |
You'll be in yours long before me, gramps |

It seems like there are two anti-Jeep trolls here who are responsible for the sum total of anti-Jeep posts.
Weird. |
| Get what you want, if you don’t, you will pine for it. Besides, my kids never paid for my vehicles so they have no say in what I choose. |
What???? I have one of these 2013 Crosstrek and that has not been my experience at all. I have ~ 80k on it and have not had any of those issues. What are you doing to that car so that it needs those repairs ??? Sounds like you are hitting holes ? Takes a lot to break and axle and wheel hubs... |
| Mid life & menopausal crisis car. Same for the new 4 door Mini Cooper in a “hip” color. |
Damn! At least my 2011 Forester made it to 100k before it went to sh!t. Of course everything major started needing fixing right after the 100k warranty was up. I did petition to Subaru and got an engine leak (known issue with the car) covered 75% when it was discovered at 102k. I never had a car start failing like this one once it hit 100k miles, though, that's for sure. |
Or, they are just fun to drive especially the new ones. |
My miles are almost exclusively highway miles. I only use the car for long trips between here and our weekend place in southwestern VA, south of Roanoke. This kind of driving is supposed to be the "easiest" miles you can put on a car, just highway cruising. We go there every Friday and come back Sunday. About 500 miles round trip, most weekends. In researching various Subaru owner websites and discussion forums, I've learned that Subaru really seems to have a problem with hub bearings and front axles going bad early. Mine has been a total money pit the last two years. This was my first one, and I certainly expected more. I won't be getting another. |
Have you driven an actually fun car? Sounds like a case of "all meat tastes like filet mignon when you don't know any better". Wranglers are slow, super noisy, and have a ridiculous amount of body roll. |
