I think at least part of it is this; so many right wingers have had their brains figuratively bludgeoned out of their heads. Did you ever have a conversation with these people? The way they talk about “the truth,” it’s like there talking about messages received from aliens tweeting on a secret frequency. There’s no critical thinking, but there are massive doses of fear.

Apparently Jones is one of them with the bludgeoned brain - one of his defenses is that he was suffering from a psychosis that made him think everything was a conspiracy. He also wants one of these parents’ suits dismissed because it's causing HIM emotional distress.

Of course. There are people out there who believe that the NASA moon landing was a hoax, that the Earth is flat (hard to believe there are still Flat Earthers!), that the JFK assassination was a conspiracy, and that a Hollywood model knows more about vaccines than the CDC and degreed medical practitioners.

There is no doubt in my mind that there are plenty of people out there who only believe what they have seen with their own eyes and therefore living in a different state know, or at least believe, that the gunning down of a school full of children did not actually happen. They're very wrong, but there are plenty of buyers out there for Alex Jones type of "Fake News".
