I think at least part of it is this; so many right wingers have had their brains figuratively bludgeoned out of their heads. Did you ever have a conversation with these people? The way they talk about “the truth,” it’s like there talking about messages received from aliens tweeting on a secret frequency. There’s no critical thinking, but there are massive doses of fear. Apparently Jones is one of them with the bludgeoned brain - one of his defenses is that he was suffering from a psychosis that made him think everything was a conspiracy. He also wants one of these parents’ suits dismissed because it's causing HIM emotional distress.
