That would make sense

Then no Principal just like Chesterbrook.

The interim principal at Chesterbrook started out as a teacher at Chesterbrook and used to be the principal at Carson MS. I'd say he's probably up to the task.

The trouble is that they can’t find a replacement. He was only supposed to be able to stay there until December. I dont know how they got around the retirement requirements, but it appears that they did. He is an interim. They have had a year to fill the spot. No one is coming forward to take it. That is the problem.

Oakton has had an interim principal for even longer. It happens.

Starting next year or now?

It sounds like they are preparing to become a PYP school because the IB organization does not allow for what you are describing. Part of qualifying to be a PYP school is each teacher in elementary has to teach all subjects to their own class. Check it out.

Ugh, Haycock does not need to get into the IB racket.

Doubt it. No reason to have a PYP school in an AP pyramid.

Our kids are the same grade. For the PP who asked, specialization starts at Haycock in 1st grade. My DC had separate math class since 1st grade. And it is a power house - the only public elementary competing with middle schools in math counts.

It's not considered best practice for kids in 1st or 2nd. They're too young for it.

Possibly why the new principal is not supporting it.

Funny that it's not best practice in 1st and 2nd grade, then they go full out segregation in 3rd grade (which IMHO is way too young). Such a strange system in FCPS. Glad we left.

Why would fcps dpuble down on IB when no one wants it?

What kind of idiots do we have in the school board?

People need to quit voting in school board members just because they are democratic party endorsed. It just keeps increasin the moron factor in our school board.

If the GOP put up decent, caring, non-budget slashing GOP stooges, I would vote for them.

That’s why they’re so upset. The previous few principals did whatever the PTA wanted.

To all the concerned Haycock parents, please come to Wednesday 21st 7:30 pm PTA meeting, we must have our voice heard against this bad decision.

So true. Let’s get Devos to visit a public school for the first time. Make sure board books are available with BIG SHORT WORDS.

PTA

Dear Parents,

Some of you may already be getting information from other parents about this, but I wanted to pass along some important information regarding Haycock. The purpose of this email is not to encourage support or opposition, but to let you know we have an issue surfacing that will directly impact our kids.

Friday morning (3/16), Jereme Donnelly informed the teachers that in grades 3-5 they will no longer be allowed to departmentalize next year. In other words, grades cannot have teachers specialize in math, language arts, science etc. as they do now. This means children will not rotate classes as they do now and each teacher will be responsible for all subjects. You may want to google the pros and cons of departmentalizing to gain clarity on the teaching approach that is currently followed at Haycock.

The teachers were not consulted on this decision and were not allowed to ask questions of Mr. Donnelly. He told them they could schedule a time to discuss the matter individually. Most teachers are extremely upset about this development and feedback from some of the teachers is that many have said they are going to look for positions elsewhere. Thus another teacher exodus.

Some parents are talking to the PTA and to the teachers to determine what we, as a parent community, should do if we oppose this decision or how we can help to promote retention of the teaching staff at Haycock.

It is encouraged that everyone with questions attend the PTA meeting this Wednesday night or schedule a meeting directly with Mr. Donnelly to address your concerns regarding the format of instruction our children will be receiving in the coming school years, along with his teacher retention initiatives and where they stand on his list of priorities.
