Hmmm would only bother me if I needed a yes/no answer.
I’m quick to process situations and not very emotional so hmmm would work for me. I’d only be annoyed if he gave you the hmmm then got annoyed you committed to things “without his agreement” or if he wasn’t hearing my question. My family is Scottish and the grandmothers would say mmmhmmmm and hmmmm for whole conversations with no other feedback/no questions and one day I asked what it meant and my mum said it’s Scots for I hear you/I’m acknowledging you spoke/don’t care/have Nothing to say. |
