OH, god I totally wanted a Jeep Wrangler in high school. I even dated a dude who had one for a bit, just because I liked his car (well, and he was a Senior! ) Alas, I didn't get a car until I bought one in college.

I think its a totally awesome car for a teenager or twenty something. Perfect.

We rented one and thought they were really nice and comfortable to our surprise. I'm assuming those who bash them never drove it. We're waiting till the next version comes out next month with all the safety features. The older ones don't have as many safety features. The safety ratings are fine, no worse than some other cars we are looking at. Why not have a fun car? I'm tired of practical. They are between $35-45K for the 4 door with all the features.

I have driven them. They are fun for very short commutes, but nothing longer. No way in heck would I pay more than about $25k for one, and even then, they would be toward the bottom of my list. People, it is a Jeep.

Anyone buying this for their teens are making following statements:

"I am desperate for approval"
"Screw the environment"
"I am too clueless to realize this is tacky"

They’re junk cars but whatever.

All the SUV's we are looking at are $35-45 with the safety features.

They’re one of the only cars that retain value.

It's never a status symbol for the kid. They did nothing. Teens in their right minds don't confer status to other teens based on parent, and only parent, success.

I don't think you understand how teens, or status symbols, work

But I do! Just more mature and level-headed than quite a few adults.

I will buy myself a newer vehicle and give my daughter my SRX. She'll be fine.

They are overpriced and get crummy safety ratings.

Best practices. Parents who buy their kids Jeeps don't follow these.

This explains why I can't find a Hybrid Pacifica at my local Chrysler dealer -- they are loaded up with Jeeps and I was thinking, "Who still buys these things?"
