Trump to widow of Sgt. La David Johnson: 'He knew what he signed up for'

Actually, they were condemning Obama for taking so much time and effort in consoling the Gold Star families.

Why is this democratic congresswoman politicizing something that should have no place in politics? The president spoke for 5 minutes with the grieving widow. And this democrat picked out one sentence out of context? Shameful. The widow probably hated it to see his late husband's death being used on CNN to attack the commander in chief.

I agree. And, Fredrica Wilson really should not be making any of this conversation public. It was a private conversation between a widow and the CIC.
Shame on Ms. Wilson.

Fox politicized Obama doing the same thing, but with more empathy and class.

Why can't the Trumpeters acknowledge that this exchange was awful? It's like there isn't even agreement on what class and empathy look like. Truly sad.

What a piece of shit. The widow and her family had just been told that her husband's body was too ravaged for an open casket funeral.

There are many awful things President Trump has done and continues to do. However this instance is not one of them, but rather reflects more his inarticulate nature and lack of good interpersonal skills.

I actually understand what he may have been trying to convey to the grieving widow, and that is, "your husband understood the extreme peril of his military service, and yet he was such a brave man that he nevertheless agreed to undertake that burden on behalf of his country each and every time he was called upon to do so."

I really wish the media would avoid harping on the low-hanging fruit, which comes across as overkill and feeds into the President's narrative that the media hates him and is out to get him about every little thing. Stick to reporting the bigger picture, it is awful enough.

I think we should all get way more outraged about endless war than we do about which platitudes are ok to use with respect to those dying in the endless wars.

Its kind of true that his body rotted in the desert for several days and was probably chewed on by animals. So its fine to bring up, right?

It was not Rep. Wilson’s place to share publicly any conversation between the widow and the CIC. She was wrong to comment on this conversation at all.
And, considering this Representative is a Democrat who, no doubt, is opposed to Trump’s administration.......Are we certain what she said is accurate?

Shame on Ms. Wilson.

The widow took the call on speakerphone. The widow is free to share the call with anyone she chooses.

I think they need to outsource these calls to Pence, who is a loser but still has a human soul.

I'd put more money on the widow asking her to let the world know what a shameful piece of sh!t the commander in chief is.

Other family members in the car have reportedly filed a formal complaint with the military re: the call.

The interview I saw with the congresswoman said Trump repeated it several times (you know that tic he has) and the wife was sobbing hysterically during the phone call.

The congresswoman was with the family because the husband had gone through a mentorship program she started.

The only defense Trumplovers have is that...the call should be secret and private? Oooookay.

Why is it so hard to admit that Trump SHOULD NOT HAVE SAID THIS?

It also reflects how unfit he is for office and people should know this.

And this is what I don't understand--I voted for Obama but when he did things I disagreed with, I disagreed. Why can the 32 or whatever percent of registered voters not disagree with any thing this fool does?
