I have bought this in the past. Is this "real"? |
No. Also, Kirkland organic milk is not high quality, and their organic chicken factory is frequently cited for problems. But it's cheap. |
Kirkland frequently changes providers. Their olive oil has varied, sometimes from Greece (probably fake), other times from Italy (probably fake) and other times from California (probably real). |
Eat butter, don't eat butter, eat eggs, don't eat eggs. Nobody really knows. As for the taste: for salads I prefer a strong tasting evoo, but I rarely make salads with dressing. For frying/sauteing I prefer regular because of the taste. |
Follow up. What is the next best general cooking oil other thank olive. Vegetable? Corn? |
I agree with this, but I try to buy the smallest bottle of high quality California olive oil that I can, so that it will be fresh. I don't keep two different types of olive oil on hand, so I just stick with EVOO although regular is fine/better for cooking. |
If you put it in the fridge and it doesn't harden it's not real.
All TJ's olive oil is not the same. Some has been tested as real olive, some less so. They have many labels/types. |
Peanut Oil. |
Depends on what you are using it for. If I'm making a salad dressing or using it as a condiment for bread, evoo is best. Real evoo also contains the most nutrients. It has a lower smoke point, though, so for high-heat cooking, light olive oil tends to work better. |
Stick with olive oil certified by the California Olive Oil Council.

Walmart sells it cheaper |
I order mine from vineyards in CA, certified by COOC.
Anyone have experience with the olive oil store in Georgetown? |
It's real olive oil. Not sure if it's "extra virgin," however, and I don't know how any retailer can guarantee it. |
Best place to get them is from Middle Eastern stores. They are packed overseas and imported directly to the US. The ones from Lebanon are the best. The Tunisian and the Greek ones are a bit heavy. |
They're no more or less likely to be fake, bought at a US grocery store, a special store, or in the Middle East. A lot of olive oil is real and a lot is fake, sold in this country and throughout Italy and the Middle East. If you know where it came from, then it's likely real. If it's unclear exactly where it came from... |
