Why do people join annual pool membership?

Agree that wait lists are insane. We were lucky when we moved to Vienna in 1999 and applied at Vienna Woods. We got a rental immediately and a full share the following year. We sold the share 12 years later for 2x what we paid. I think the wait list there is now in the hundreds.

My kids go a lot during the summer weekdays when DH and I are at work.

Don't they go to friend's house for BBQ? visit zoo or museums?
It seems like there are plenty things to do, why gate yourself in the pool and what's wrong with public pools?

What do your children do during the week? If they are home with a nanny instead of at camp, they'd use it a lot during the week. I agree if you only use it 2 days out of 7, it's not a good deal. Public pools are scarce in No. VA where we live, and gross.

We never end up going to the city pools, because of their hours/location/anticipated crowds. And my kids apparently don't get enough swimming in summer camp. Still, I hold out because of feeling that it's kind of a bougie thing to do.

What's wrong with being bourgeois?

Seems too expensive. Swim team seems too competitive.

My kids go almost every day after school and then after camp for an hour or two. A lot of people bring dinner, have their kids swim, eat and shower then go straight to bed.

Where I live, in Potomac, if you belong to a pool club, you are poor. Many of my kids' classmates belong to Congressional and Bethesda Country Club. That's out of our budget, so we just go to the pool down the street. It's fine and I feel like the people at our club are fun and down to earth.
