Parents of kids who attended pk3 and pk4 this year, how have you liked it? We've applied for next year (to Janney too) but aren't sure if we'd go for it.

Were you able to apply for it and for IB at janney?

NP but yes you can. The Communikids program isnt' in the Common Lottery / MySchoolDC system.

What does this mean:
"Children who are five years of age BEFORE September 30, 2018, are NOT eligible for the Pre-K Enhancement Program"

My child turned 5 in January...can I try to enroll her here instead of her IB school?

I'm not sure what "NOT eligible for the Pre-K Enhancement Program" means.

Thanks in advance for clarifying.

I assume it means that if your child is already 5 by 9/30/18, they aren’t eligible for this PK enhancement program. Is the PK program the one funded by DC?

PP here.

Never mind. Just realized I was reading that wrong so no need to explain it.

Thanks!

Your child is beyond PK age and needs to start in K.

That doesn’t got that far in dc, especially is you want to buy in a good school boundary. daycare is around 1700/month on top of 1 mil for house west of the park. Hell I live in petworth and houses on my block are
Going for over $800k and school is terrible.

But I'm uncomfortable with giving priority to families who are able to pay for the first year of the program -- that's not at all in keeping with the spirit of free PK, where it really is a lottery that is fair for all.

+1

Then that would cut out half the kids in DC, who do have families who can pay. ALL kids deserve a solid preschool.

Yes, but not necessarily a free one.

The OSSE enhanced PK program is offered at 25 child care centers across the city. Only one, Communikids, is in Ward 3 and serving anyone other than low to moderate income families. Aside from giving families an option beyond DCPS or charter PK3 and PK4, it raises the standards for teacher training and provides grants for these centers to get its employees trained.

See list on this page http://www.myschooldc.org/find-schools/school-options-outside-my-school-dc

Sigh. Yes all of that is true and $350k is a “relatively high income.”

CommuniKids accepts children who qualify for the DC Childcare subsidy, so there are 2 year olds attending for almost free as well.

Did Pre-K 3 this year. Very happy with it. Child really enjoys going, has made some new friends, and understands (mostly) Spanish.
