Weirdest LEGAL thing you did to get cash quick?

I flip stuff on Craigslist and eBay. There's lots of big ticket items on CL that no one buys because they need cleaning or a simple repair. I can usually resell a double stroller I've cleaned up and repaired for $50-$100 more than I bought it for.
Sometimes DH will see an eBay listing for a nice watch and it just isn't posted well - blurry photos, not much detail. He will buy it and repost it for $100 more but doing it the right way.

I save makeup samples and sell them on eBay as grab bags.

I would love to do this...where did you find opportunities?

Not PP, but I did this too. I used Coyle Hospitality; they do some higher end restaurants / hotels in DC, but the reports are intense. It used to take me 3 hours to write up a report for a $200 meal. My husband likes fancy food, and I'm cheap, so it worked for us (before kids)

I would totally do this if I didn't have to worry about my waistline.

Mock jury - that was fun and paid well. And there was free food.

Another clinical trial guinea pig. I made $700 for one weekend in the early 00s.

Focus groups.

Maybe he had a medical history that precludes him from it. Whatever the reason, OP should be really proud of what a nice kid her stepson is.

Yes, Roommate had just gotten a tattoo re:his dad recently passing away from cancer. I guess that there's a waiting period afterwards. They are both great young men. I'm sending them a care package today.

So he gets a tattoo but can't pay the rent. Oookkkkkk......

Yeah, he did. He's 20 and grieving hard.

To each his own but is be very disappointed if my kids got tattoos even more so if they couldn't afford to get one.

Back when I was in Biglaw firms like LexisNexis paid me a lot of money to participate in focus groups to discuss the functionality of their product and various improvements they were contemplating. I made $300-$600 for each one hour focus session. They paid me with an amazon gift card so I don't think they send me a 1099 for it either.

His dad is dead so I doubt he's very disappointed about anything.

Should have stopped at "To each his own." We all still would have felt your disapproval.

Back in 1989 (I think) I had recently graduated and did data entry for a non-profit in the evenings to help make rent, and worked with a young Bill De Blasio!

Evaluated SAT essays and state reading standards essays for high school students in Texas (many used "y'all" in those) through the Educational Testing Service. Not exactly weird, but reading the same essay prompt and essay 50+ times in an evening got to be pretty dull. They recently discontinued the program I was doing it under, though.

Secret shopping checking out parking garages and the attendants. Got $20 each, but kind of depressing and I had to stay in each at least 20-40 minutes so I had to find something to do nearby. I've done other more interesting secret shopping.

While in my late 20's I was a very good golfer (but in business school) and a wealthy lady golfer in her early 40's invited me to play with her in her club's two day mixed event and she offered to pay me $250. We didn't win but at the end of the weekend she gave me $500 for golf plus other services.

I have also donated plasma when short on rent when I was like 18.

Damn - you must have made bank if you donated a "bunch" of times.

In college, my brother, who is a lawyer, was living in the same town needed help delivering a subpoena to a dude who kept intentionally dodging the police officer who tried to serve him. He told me he'd give me $50 if I walked up to his apartment, pretended we had some class together to confirm I had the right guy, and then serve the papers. I did exactly that, with my brother waiting in the stairwell in case things went down. It worked, and I was $50 richer.

What were the other services? Did it require you to use your putter?
