just after law school/bar exam I had no job and no real prospects. I was doing temp work (at times, not even legal temp work - data entry stuff). i'd do these medical tests where a company would apply cleanser used during surgery to spots of my body and i'd have to forgo showering for a few days. I got $600 or so each time. I think I may have done this 5-6 times.
Luckily, things worked out and I am in biglaw now. The end. |

As long as you aren't a poor black teen on the National Mall, you've got a shot at getting away with it. |
Used to do this outside rfk. As long as you gave the beat police a freebie you were all set. |
| I applied for a focus group on fashion and had some guy come to my house and film me and my closet. It was really weird but I got $450 out of it |
| Market researchers went shopping with me, openly for an ironing board and took notes on how I iron at home. |
Best auto-correct typo! |
| Our house was once chosen as a "Nielsen family" for a week. They sent a diary. I wrote down everything everyone watched on TV for that week. When the week was up, I mailed it to wherever it was supposed to go. I got a whopping $5 for it. |
We did that when we lived in a different market. Way too much work for $5. |
I think they sent us $20! I think they send randomly different amounts for some reason. (I googled it) |
| Yard sale. Not that unusual. But I'd never done it before. Took about 20 hours of work and we made ~450. |

I used to take stuff that my aunts and grandmothers were giving away and sold it on eBay. Porcelain figurines are surprisingly popular in the worldwide market. Old magazines. Lots of upside since the junk was free. Just my time. Sold their 'junk' jewelry (a single gold earring, an outdated brooch) for scrap metal by sending it to a refinery.
My teenage nephew has a truck and he buys couches on Craigslist, and then resells them also on Craigslist, but throws in free delivery. Always a profit. Have also done focus groups for websites, solo and in groups - about $50 each. Got these gigs from former co-workers. Made a $50 Visa gift card on Dec 15th and spent it on kids' Christmas gifts. |
| Party Promoter. I went to bars and there parties and got paid $20 bucks every person through door. |
Are you a local celeb or just a pretty girl? My DD did event promotions in college. She's stunning. She got paid to hang out in bars and clubs, where she would invite male celebs (mostly local pro athletes, but not big names) to an event the next day. People came to these events just to say they partied with so-and-so. |

I've done paid focus groups/market research 3 or so times and they've averaged $150 per hour or so session.
In college did a few psych and medical research projects; also sold purses on EBay. As a kid my family didn't have great dental coverage and both my sister and I took part in a clinical trial for an anagelsic which got us free wisdom tooth removal and care plus stipends Now exploring Lyft for extra vacation cash |
