No , that’s mostly new money Asians. The old money white live north of Baltimore around Towson and Ruston areas and send their kids to private schools like Gilman, Bryn Mawr and McDonogh. |
They are just trying to make themselves feel better that their parents wasted all that money on their elementary to high school years and they still ended up at the same college and grad school as you did with your measly public school education. |
Not downtown. And they hang out with each other’s homes or country club. |
There is no place on earth more preppy than Annapolis. |
I am reminded of this City Paper article from that era: https://www.washingtoncitypaper.com/news/article/13005612/members-only-inside-the-elite-world-of-late-night-shots |
I was going to suggest Mt Washington Tavern, but had no idea whether it still existed. |
That’s Ruston. As for Gilman, it is the St. Albans of Baltimore. |
Typo for me too. Should say Ruxton. |
And be sure to shop at Britches on Wisconsin Avenue. They have great stuff. ![]() |
My in-laws (Falmouth, Massachusetts and Bar Harbor, Maine) would like to formally challenge your statement. |
Britches? That's going back a minute. Their old spot is probably a cupcake place now or something. Try Sid/Ann Mashburn. |
If waterfront is part of downtown (Canton, Fells, Fed, Harbor East) then yes, they live downtown. As a poster earlier this thread mentioned, they're not living in an apartment in Cockeysville. When they get married and have kids, then they move to Ruxton or the valleys or Homeland, or if they're liberals, Roland Park. |
Not really. They don't care about public schools. It's not a competition thing. Nor is it educational. It's a social thing. Gilman/Roland Park - Vanderbilt - T Rowe Price - house in Ruxton is more of a statement than public - Harvard - head of NGO in DC. Mind you, with the rapidly escalating private school tuitions some of of them are even being forced to send the precious kiddies to public elementary schools and deferring private till 6th grade. Shocker. |
I love this n annap and don’t consider it preppy. It is touristy, and pretty trashy. Some enclaves on the outside of town are preppy but I wouldn’t say the town as a whole. |
Should say “live in annap” |
