I sent a fax to McCain yesterday. Yeah I'm not a constituent and he will probably ignore it, but there are occasions where he shows that he has a moral compass and a backbone, and he doesn't have an upcoming reelection to worry about.

McCain is not on this committee and therefore does not hold a vote. Here are the senators on the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions committee. These are the people to contact about DeVos

Republicans:
Lamar Alexander (TN)
Michael B. Enzi (WY)
Richard Burr (NC)
Johnny Isakson (GA)
Rand Paul (KY)
Susan Collins (ME)
Bill Cassidy, M.D. (LA)
Todd Young (IN)
Orrin Hatch (UT)
Pat Roberts (KS)
Lisa Murkowski (AK)
Tim Scott (SC)

Democrats

Patty Murray (WA)
Bernie Sanders (VT)
Robert P. Casey, Jr (PA)
Al Franken (MN)
Michael F. Bennet (CO)
Sheldon Whitehouse (RI)
Tammy Baldwin (WI)
Christopher S. Murphy (CT)
Elizabeth Warren (MA)
Tim Kaine (VA)
Maggie Hassan (NH)

You're a bit behind- she's already made it through committee. Full senate votes today.

At this point not much, but you can take the "DeVos pledg" and donate $ to defeat Senators who vote yes.

Also, start following @flippable, @SwingLeft and @IndivisibleTeam (Twitter or FB) for further direction.

And no, I don't like DeVos. Dems are just powerless and we are going to see a bunch of unqualified people/banker billionaires running our country.

So, do nothing?

I mean...what else can we do? They are going to run/ruin the country as they see fit. She'll get confirmed despite all of this effort and hoopla. I don't get it, I guess I was looking for an explanation of how all of this opposition will actually change anything.

Resistance is WORKING. We might not win every battle but these efforts ARE making a dent.

Fair enough

Matt Yegelisas and his total history of work is why I will never be a democrat. He is the most partisan person/writer I know

You write off the entire democratic party because Matt Yglesias is the most partisan writer you know? How did you manage to reconcile republicanism with Glenn Beck? There are extremists on both ends of the spectrum (although I wouldn't have picked Yglesias as an example personally)

I view Yglesisas basically like Heritage Foundation. Ezra Kline has gone off the rails since Trump was elected. When Obama was in power I actually liked the guy.... But Yglesisas to me represents what liberals want to do to this country and it is frankly crazy and insane.

I didn't ask you to clarify your opinion of Yglesias, I asked what you think about your perception of Yglesias' equivalents on the right. IE, the entire staff of Brietbart, Matt Drudge, the Glenn Beck of yore, Tomi Lahren etc

Yes, the Democrats got out smarted again on this one. Why didn't they vote on Sessions immediately to take that vote away from the Senate. Stupid is as stupid does.

Hindsight is 20/20. Sessions is deplorable. Key Dem constituencies opposed his nom and would not have accepted some "trade" of voting in Sessions on Day 1 to oppose DeVos on Day 39. DeVos also deplorable, but the extent of her ignorance about public education, federal law in re the disabled, etc became so glaringly obvious in her hearing. Hoped DeVos would go down, but assumed that McConnell had given day passes to Collins and Murkowski - now back to GOP jail for them - to vote for her.

as a democrat, I want to fight tooth-and-nail on every single thing. Every tiny procedural matter. Everything. Make Trump spend as much time, energy and political capital as possible.

+1. Good lord PP, use your brain. If Sessions was confirmed first, Alabama's Republican governor would get to pick his temporary replacement (spoiler alert: said replacement would also be a Republican). That republican would almost certainly vote to confirm. It's not a change. The Republicans would just delay her confirmation hearing until they were sure that Sessions's replacement would be able to vote.
