I can never decide if I'm on track. Both early to mid fortunes. Hi if around $200k. I have saved about $500k. Husband has only saved around $40k but he will have a nice pension - about 60k+ a year (can retire in 9 years). And I'll get the max ss payout too. We own a home with less than 90k to pay off. Minimal debt otherwise. College will be paid for (3800 a year into md prepaid tuition), and we are down to after school care only. We own land free and clear on which we want to soon build a larger home. I worry about that.

But I feel poor. All the time. I always worry about money.

Forties. Lol. Not fortunes. Ironic!

Hope the money keeps you warm abd provides great company in your old age.

That's what the hot young nurses are for.

Now the business has grown and our HHI is $800-900k per year. We're lucky to have gotten this far -- it was a lot of hard work to get here.

You wouldn't know it from looking at us (except our house). I think half my clothes are from Old Navy and the kids too.

Congratulations. What kind of company?

Late 30's, DH is 40. We hit $1M net worth last year including real estate equity. We're comfortable but I don't at all feel like we've "made it." Maybe it's because we're not expecting any sort of inheritances or trust funds. If anything, I feel we need to kick it up a notch to really be able to enjoy the next half of our lives.

The folks with million dollar (or more) net worths talking about how worried they still feel about finances are a poignant reminder of how money, by itself, is never enough for happiness.

Us, too! Although a lot of it is our real estate equity (2 properties) and retirement savings (about half of our net worth). Early 30s. Hope to be financially independent enough to quit our jobs in a couple years.

I think its great. We are in the midst of paying off debt and its tough work. With so many folks around here that I know getting financial help as adults, I do think its a great accomplishment to be self-made.

Congrats OP! We're at about $800K (early 30s), but I've been amazed at how fast it speeds up the more you get. Obviously I knew it intellectually, but the compounding power and getting money to make you money is REAL! Start early young people!

Like I have posted before it took 13 years of diligent savings to get to the first million, but only 6 more years to reach the second million. Only 4 more years to reach the third million and then 2.5 years to $4 million. A year later and we are at $4.6 million. Not bad for two wage slaves in our early 50s.

How? Almost 40 here. DH and I are at about $1.3M which includes real estate equity.

How? What a mystery... My 2 best guesses for "how" would be that (1) they spent less than you or (2) earned more than you (or likely some combination of the 2).

You can be happy and still be worried about having enough in retirement. It's called being responsible. Retirement, college, safety net require a pretty sizable sum these days.
