Congratulations! I don't think million is hard to reach if you have high salaries. I saved up $250k in 10 years while never earning more than $40k a year.
I wasted the first 10 years not saving (no green card-couldn't invest or buy anything) and never found a partner who would like to save too. |
| Dialed back on our jobs after we paid off loans, paid down mortgage enough to refinance into a 15-year, bought two new cars (intending to keep them 10 years), and kids were out of day care. Totally worth it although I miss the bonuses. Still able to save for retirement and college. |
I saved tons of money with no green card. You can have bank and brokerage accounts. |
Congrats to you and congrats to OP! |

Congrats! Was in a similar situation 10 years ago when I started my company. Made no revenue and lived off meager savings, while working 14+ hours per day. Now the business has grown and our HHI is $800-900k per year. We're lucky to have gotten this far -- it was a lot of hard work to get here.
You wouldn't know it from looking at us (except our house). I think half my clothes are from Old Navy and the kids too. |

Awesome...congrats OP and the rest. I hope to be debt free very soon!
|
| Your not out of debt-youbstill have student loans and a mortgage. |
So assets > 1 million are no big deal? |
OP said her networth is 1m, her assets are more than her debts, seems pretty awesome to me. |
| Congrats. And a "thumb- my- nose" to the naysayers. |
|
I'm 60, single, have a $7 million trust, no debt and no wife to support, life is OK. Yeah I'm bragging too. But I worked until I was 55 and still had enough to retire before I received the trust.
|
Your kids are from Old Navy? Cool!
|
Not this crap again... |
| I agree, congratulations to you guys. My wife and I are in the same boat including just paying off our mortgage. No one including my family have any idea. It's just something you bring up to people. |
| I can deal with these type of threads where the OP fully discloses they're bragging AND they've worked hard for it. It's the 'woe is me, I only have 1 million and I'm concerned I haven't saved enough compared to my 30 year old peers' threads I can't stand. |
