If they want to organize a peaceful, lawful, protest on their own time and it doesn't interfere with homework or other responsibilities, then they can go ahead.

Leaving school during the day, when they are supposed to be in class is the wrong way. Yes, they need to learn the lesson, and explain why they are being grounded.

Protesting is a right, free speech is a right, but with it comes responsibility. I would ground them.

Do you even understand the concept of protesting?? The point of walking out and protesting during the school day is that it draws attention to their message. What good would it do to organize a protest for an off time when they're out of school and done with homework and other obligations? You are odd.

So far I have seen kids protesting from Blair, Einstein, Richard Montgomery, Wilson, BCC, Northwood, Blake, and Paint Branch. I am very proud of these kids for taking a moral stand against the kind of hate they have seen in the Trump campaign for minorities and immigrants.

I am disappointed not to have seen kids from the W schools walk out. Maybe they did and I just didn't hear about it. I'm sure most of their parents voted for Hillary, but I'm not sure they can identify with these protesters if so few of their classmates are immigrants or minorities.

I woudn't punish them, but I would expect that they receive an unexcused absence.

Were you proud of the students for beating and kicking a Trump supporter?

TThat' absolutely horrible & inexcusable behavior. It hardly reflects the behavior of the gas majority of the kids who were (peacefully) protesting, however.

He is president whether we like it or not. They are not accomplishing anything by protesting and are using it to get out of school. There are far better ways to us that time, such as actually volunteering and helping others.

Exactly. I can think of dozens of ways to do something that actually will help those facing vulnerability because of Trump's presidency - volunteer for Planned Parenthood/LGBTQ groups/other advocacy groups, write letters to Congresspeople, etc. and protesting is not on that list.

IF my child had given his/her time to do something along those lines, THEN perhaps I would allow for such protesting. But I would absolutely punish my child if they skipped school to march in a way that helps no one, nor will it change anything.

If these schools would have chosen 3:00 pm on a weekday or on a Saturday how many would have shown up? Probably about 25. This was all about getting out of class. Nothing more.

Why would you ground them. The school essentially gave them permission.

Only a fascist would discipline a kid for protesting our hate-mongering prez-elect.

I cannot ground my kids if they are protesting the election of a Pussy Grabber. However, I would like them to protest the Fake Democracy of the electoral college too.

Shame on the US democracy. It has created a Banana Republic.

Believe it or not, I am not proud of these 4 students but still proud of the remaining thousand. No normal person can equate the level of physical and rhetorical violence between the Trump and anti-Trump camps here.

Washington Post is reporting that police are investigating an adult who pulled out a handgun on Blair high school students who were marching peacefully earlier this week. This driver pulled out of his lane, drove past several cars which had stopped to allow the children to march, drove into the midst of the protesters, argued with them and then pulled out a handgun.

I don't care if the school gave them permission, I did not. It is not ok to leave school to protest as they are there to get an education. They can do it after school on the weekends. One quick protest, ok, but not multiple days, etc.
