Churchill is not metro-accessible. Another good school, but not convenient for metro. Same with Wootton.

You may be able to find something in the Walter Johnson neighborhoods in your range, but it's on par with RM and doesn't have an IB, I think. You can check about BCC, but I think you're likely priced out of the metro-accessible areas.

There is nothing in that price range available in WJ district that is metro accessible and a SFH. WJ scores no better than RM. Go away, troll.

It lucked out to have a "W" in its name and be in Bethesda. It's a good school. But it's not necessarily any better than RM.

What is the neighborhood feel like in the RM cluster? Do kids just go outside and find a bunch of other kids to play with? I want to move to an area with big(ger) backyards, lots of trees, and kids running around on their own. Are there any areas of Rockville where you have cul-de-sacs and quieter streets where the kids are enjoying being kids?

Flower Valley in Rockville seems that way. Is there an equivalent in RM?

There are pockets in RM cluster area like this. You really need to just drive around on a sunday afternoon and see. I don't want to say where exactly we live, but my kids walk to a neighbor's house (not right next door), and play with the kids there, and it is in a cul de sac. Sizeable backyards.

It does seem like the more affluent areas in general (not just RM cluster) don't have kids going to each other houses's to play, running around on their own; it seems like most of the kids are too busy with activities or something.

Check the college gardens neighborhoods. They are exactly like this.

Manor Lake (neighborhood right next to Flower Valley) had tons of kids and nice sized lots. My kids and their friends are always going back and forth between our houses to play (without setting up formal playdates).

You can thank the magnet kids for that.

Which constitutes some inbound RM kids. But aside from that, you can thank the wealthier kids in WJ for the higher test scores. Really, not that different than what you are saying about RM.

Flower Valley doesn't really have sidewalks, which is a HUGe negative to me.

The WJ parents are kidding themselves if they think their "Bethesda" zipcode suggests the prestige of Whitman.

How good (or bad) is RM w/o the magnet program? Can someone post some specific data other than "it's good/bad" comments? I saw one PP's (estimated) analysis showing average SAT score of slightly below MCPS average (1590 or so??). Can someone provide SPECIFIC data showing it's better/worse than that?? TIA.
