Yes, George Mason is such a great credential to have in this Ivy-crazed area. |
Big jump in UVA applications from 2010 onward. Looks like escalating private college tuition have encouraged even affluent families in McLean to look at the UVA route. Completely understandable.
|
Yes. It's such an excellent school that many people would only turn it down for an Ivy. I mean, for undergrad business, what could be better? Wharton, maybe, but nothing else. So it's rational that tons of people apply. |
Jmu business undergrad is possibly better. |
Hass and Ross are definitely better and there may be others. |
Not every person and every field is "Ivy-crazed." If I had a computer-science focused kid I'd definitely encourage them to consider Mason. Regardless, my kids will likely to go to VA state universities (unless they want to go to an out-of-state school that will give aid to bring the price down to be comparable). My DH and I both went to good state universities and have done fine -- him in engineering, me in marketing analytics. Nobody cares where we went to school. If our kids want to be lawyers or work in finance or management consulting than even better that they save the $$ on undergrad since they should pay for the big-name grad school/law school because that is what really counts in those fields. |
Agreed. Best Undergraduate Business Programs Rankings 1. UPenn (wharton) 2. MIT 2. Berkeley (Hass) 4. Michigan (Ross) 5. NYU 6. UVA . . |
Sticker price for tuition for a VA resident... 1. UPenn (wharton) $73,634 2. MIT $46,400 2. Berkeley (Hass) $41,078 4. Michigan (Ross) $43,476 5. NYU $47,930 6. UVA $14,468 I went to Michigan but would be thrilled to send DC to UVA for business (or any other major). The $116K savings vs Ross over 4 years (not to mention the travel expenses) would go a long way toward paying for grad school! |
MD and DC residents would have to pay $45,066.00 to attend UVA which is more than Berkeley or Michigan... |
But the discussion here is about % of NOVA students admitted to UVA. Of course it's a different consideration if UVA is out-of-state. |
Well, of course it would be better for in state students to attend UVA in general just as it would be for Michigan in state students to attend Michigan, for in state students to attend Wisconsin and so on so you are trying stating the obvious. |
The discussion is about va |
It's actually about NOVA HS students admitted to UVA... |
| Edison averaged about a 35% admission rate of those who applied 2010-2016. The numbers of applicants were fewer than some of the high schools posted above. The class size has been running under 500, though currently increasing. |
| So what we've learned is that approx 35% of each high school's applicants are admitted. Some HS's have a larger pool of applicants, but it's around 30-35% per school. |
