How do you fit everything for the beach in the car??

Exhibit number one for Americans moving their house with them wherever they go!

Seriously now, you don't need all this. You're not going into the wilderness, OP.

Haven't you taken a plane before? It's the same idea of minimizing what you're taking. I bring little bottles of toiletries and detergent, not the big bottles. I buy food on site. Only a few entertainment items (books, toys, no screens). Capsule wardrobe. No doubles of anything.

It feels so liberating to travel light!

In the summer time, I pack the least clothes. Always been this way. Just one back bag. For a week long trip, same thing. 2-3 pairs of shorts, 1 set of pj, 1 long sleeve light weight shirt, 1 pair of sneakers, 1 sandals, 1 flip flop.
Think about it, it's hot to nothing bulky.

Some home rentals do not have paper towels, soaps. But, you can get all these there (I'm sure).
Pack food for just the first 2 days. Stay simple, bread, cereal, eggs, peanut butter. Other days, just go to the grocery store. Overall, you are not saving that much.

For the kids -- 5 outfits total, plus what they are wearing. 2 pairs of PJs, a long sleeved shirt in case it gets cool, shoes that can get wet, shoes to play on a playground (wear one pair of shoes), 2 sets swim clothes.

For yourself, much the same amount, in the adult versions.

Then edit again.

3 outfits at MOST. 1 pair of pjs (seriously? it's a week!)

Of course, at our house (with 4 families) there is laundry happening constantly - you can always slip something in.

If you only bring one pair of PJs, it's a straight up guarantee that the kid will wet the bed.

So let them wear a t-shirt to bed. Nbd.

Great ideas so far! One other thing to consider is that the place you are renting a crib from likely also rents high chairs, strollers etc. We've done this for years and it is such a relief not to worry about packing these items (or getting your own stroller sandy!) Have fun!

OP, thanks for addressing the questions.

You don't need to park in the garage (this is presuming you got a beach house), as most driveways have plenty of space to park outside the garage/covered driveway. That would allow you to do what someone suggested and get something for the top of your car.

You don't mention which beach you are going to, but I think what people suggested applies anywhere. I think most of the people on this site including me have been to OBX, and that is where the experience is being drawn from.
