Toenail fell off and there was another one underneath. WTH?

You are not alone! Same exact thing happened to me... Found out my mother twenty years ago had the same thing happen on the same toe. So, there's at least two more crazy toes out there.

same thing happened to me- no injury, no fungus. The toe nail just came off when I brushed against the sheet -it did hurt where it was still connected to skin. When I finally had courage to look under it, there was already a new nail there. A couple of weeks later, the same toe (next to pinky toe) on the other foot also peeled off with a new nail underneath. Very weird...Oh and it was summer so hadn't been wearing closed in shoes for a while

I had the same thing happen to a toenail. Just shoe rubbing against the toe. Not even hard or uncomfortable. And it just lifted and fell off one day. I was shocked. Now I just injured a fingernail (smashed it with an appliance), the nail fell off but another thin one is underneath it almost all the way. I'm guessing I must be part reptile now too.

My big toe was injured almost 10 years ago and has been in a constant cycle of new growing toenail under old dead toenail since then. Hopefully yours is all healed up now and will return to normal.

Just my my lil pinky toe mail and a new one was underneath, I had injured my Foot falling down the stairs a little over 10 years ago.

I had a big toe nail come of in my hand. Due to wearing steel toe cap boots years ago. When I inspected it, there was a new one growing. It's been fine since then.

This happened to my 7 year old. Both pinky toenails within weeks of each other.
