We have been shopping Trader Joes Manhattan for 7 years - Buy ALL of our groceries there
Never a problem except the past 4 or 5 months. MILK is spoiled 3 times even when the exp. date is 2 weeks out . While they always give a refund , it is not the point . Now I have to go out and buy milk again - crowded stores and just a pain 3/3- thats it - will not take a chance again . |
| I’ve shopped at TJS for 30+ yrs & it’s my staple for food. I do have to admit produce can go bad quickly & they often have bad produce on the shelves! I spend A LOT of time looking through it to pick out good ones! Things like cucumbers need to be washed once you get them home/dried & replaced into a ziplock (they’ll last a good wk or so. Dairy... I only buy organic milk & 1/2 & 1/2. I can’t help but notice that the milk is so much more bitter tasting than other organic brands (I don’t want to drink a glass TJS 1% milk, extreme bitter aftertaste). But other are delicious! Greek yogurt as well. I was just finishing up another brands 0% fat Greek yogurt (not too bitter) & opened my brand new TJS Greek 0% fat to compare (extremely bitter) I might have to return as I purchased the larger container & don’t think I can manage to consume it. Why is their dairy soooo bitter?? Their 1/2 & 1/2 often goes bad b4 the due date. Oh, & their pre made salads are now kept in fridges that are TOOOOO COLD (in the stores in my area anyway.. for maybe going on 5 yrs now) & it turns the lettuce to mush.. so most of them are bad WAY BEFORE THE DUE DATE!! They’re totally disgusting if you don’t pay attention & the lettuce & other veggies have all gone BAD!! They should turn up the cooler on the dairy & down on the veggies! The salads have gotten me physically ill & now I have to inspect those as well b4 buying. |

Milk has spoiled multiple times . Fruit often moldy. I have a newer fridge and keep the setting low so that's not the problem. Be sure to check their bagged stuff that are puffy from spoilage. My TJ store is close and convenient, but from now on I will go to regular super market stores. Walmart and Target groceries are even better than TJs. TJs has sloppy quality control . Beware.

| Trader Joe's milk has been a problem for years. Sours with 8 days left on the stamped shelf life when kept at constatnt 37 degrees F. Who's doing the inspection or is their transport system at fault? |
| I love Trader Joe's but stopped buying milk from there years ago... it spoils way before the expiration date |
| I think it depends a lot on the specific store/manager and their practices for handling cold products. The milk from TJ in Bailey's Crossroads and Clarendon has always been fine for me. Other chains in the area vary. |
| Trader Joe’s is a pile of garbage. Their produce is disgusting. They cut a ton of corners. It’s nasty. I’m sure their milk expires quickly because they probably turn their coolers up a degree or it is older before it is packaged. Gross |
This is not true with pasteurized milk. The cows “you grew up with” were giving you fresh unpasteurized milk. That may not last a week (though it can last that long). |
| I swear they’re not careful with cold storage. I never buy meat, milk, or perishable produce there. |
I think it varies by store. |
where do you shop? |

TJ's is a favorite of so many folks, but if you notice after shopping there a few times, their produce doesn't last long. |
