They intentionally want us all to think we are less safe and need their fascism to keep us all safe. There are studies that show the more afraid people are of these non existant boogey men the more likely you'll skew to the right politically. They always bring out human trafficking of minors and dangerous crime abounds claims around elections.

I do the same out of boredom and being told that I need to drive my car regularly and I haven't been driving much since covid. Our 3rd family car gets taken out for 20 minutes every month or so as I'm not certain who has driven it. I try to do it at night as I prefer to drive like grandma - at least 10 under the speed limit - and at night I don't usually have to deal with neighbors riding my butt. Also if I'm considering any change to the outside of my house I'm going to drive around and look at what everyone else in my neighborhood has done. I want to change my shutters/door colors and it is driving me nuts. I'm also thinking about going to the hoa to change my light fixtures but there are too many options. If I like what you've done, I will absolutely copy it.

This is also why they keep starting threads for every mugging in the greater metropolitan area. As long as the word "crime" shows up in Recent Topics, they're happy.
