Hamilton v. Kenyon v. Sewanee

Anonymous
9:27. For the most recent year, 2015 I have found a 40.6% acceptance rate. Not bad, but definitely not sub-30% which the other two schools are.

Hamilton and Kenyon are a little more academically focused. People at Sewanee party hard.

Sarcastic, right?

Reads like a press release by the school.

"people drink too much"

"a couple of fraternities are on probation"

"not as diverse as it could be"

If that were a press release, the person writing it would be looking for another job.

No, actually I'm a proud mom. Our child is having a wonderful experience there -- I'm just telling you that it's not perfect. We had the kid who was devastated by all the schools that rejected him but who has really thrived at Sewanee. We are also a family where a lot
of people went to Vandy so we're not scared by Tennessee the way some of you guys might be!

This year (2016) it was in the 30's. This might not have been officially cited anywhere but it was known on campus.

Don't know about Hamilton, but Kenyon is not more academically focused than Sewanee. It's true that its students may have a different focus and way of partying.

In what way?

Although a small school, many Swanee grads end up in DC. It is preppy, conservative tolerant of liberals
And beautiful. Use English degree to go MBA or JD route imo:

In my opinion, it's always been the way you've described. Certainly true for my friends who graduated from there.

Sewanee = the school where the brave go to drink after having been rejected everywhere else.

Great testimonial.

Sewanee is unabashedly a fun school. The academics are not a party though. The expectations are high and many do not make it. It could be that many of the admittees looked at other opportunities, but I have yet to meet a Sewanee grad who did not feel that their experience was both memorable, enjoyable and transformative.

It used to be Sewanee and Rhodes. Now people are talking about Sewanee and Kenyon, Hamilton. The current president has a vision of doing what he did with Middlebury at Sewanee.

Sewanee's applicant pool is increasing dramatically. That is going to bring down acceptance rates. Acceptance rate went from 60 percent or so in 2014 to 38 percent last Fall. We'll see if the trend continues but my bet is yes as it broadens its base from the South. They are also seriously cracking down on partying, promoting athletic success and recruiting strong deans.

Are all 3 hot schools right now? I'm hearing a lot about Sewanee. Kenyon was all the rage a few years ago. Have never heard much buzz about Hamilton.

Are these 3 schools typically on the same list? They all seem so different from one another.

Hamilton and Kenyon are not different from one another and are both on my DD list. They both have excellent options for writers and are small and great for a student who wants to go to a school with a more remote setting, which can promote unity between students on campus.
