Priests also get free room and board and maid service, a pension and a place to live for the rest of their lives. Still not the best deal, because they have to forego having a family of their own, but more security than most people have.

Their pensions are small; you can tell by the number of very old priests who are "in residence" at various parishes. They really don't get to retire.

No maid service at my parish. And we often feed the priests so they eat decently rather than half-starving to keep the lights on.

Really -- the priests do their own cooking and cleaning?

They do. That's one of the purposes of those little envelopes with the date and your name that you use for your donation to the collection plate.

The catholic church I attend in Falls Church, VA. Has direct deposit (Faith Direct). You sign up with your checking account or credit card and they deduct the amount you specify every week.
