I think it is pretty sad that there are people in the US who don’t know what the ISIS flag looks like given they have beheaded our citizens and threatened to strike the US.

It is just a replica of the flag (aka "black standard") that was carried by Muhammad during his conquests. It simply says: “There is no god but God, Muhammad is the messenger of God.” - the white circle represents the seal of Muhammad.

One of my neighbors has one of these flags hanging in the back of their SUV.

I read the A section of the Washington Post cover to cover virtually every day. I read the New Yorker weekly. I read the Sunday NYT. Now that Verizon no longer offers the Weather Channel, I don't watch any TV news, ever. I suspect I know more than most Americans about current national and international events. I haven't the foggiest idea what the ISIS flag looks like.

I'm guessing that even if I read the Wall Street Journal, the Weekly Standard, and the American Spectator, I still would have no idea what the ISIS flag looks like.

I know!! The minute I heard that, I rushed to google the flag so that I would know what was happening if I saw it on the White House!! Otherwise I might be caught off-guard!!

For Christ's sake. Listen, there is a lot to fear about ISIS. That they will plant their flag on the White House grounds in my lifetime isn't one of them. But rest assured, should that happen, I'm sure no one will miss the message, whether or not one recognizes the fucking flag.
