Jameson:
~ Scott ~ Phillip ~ Edward ~ Michael ~ Daniel ~ Logan ~ Christopher |
Yes, this. Really, you can't do Jameson. It's trying too hard and the whole "the name of a famous whiskey / shot" is not one he will easily escape. |
Nonsense. I have never even heard of Jameson whiskey. |
|
OP here. Thank you for the (serious) suggestions. I really love Jameson Scott and Jameson Daniel. I haven't encountered the automatic nick naming in my adult life or even as a child. My father is James. No one calls him Jim or Jamie not even when he was a child. On school forms here, they ask the parents to fill out the child's legal name and the preferred name (nickname). It seems disrespectful to shorten someone's given name especially if you are corrected.
As for the whiskey reference, I had never heard of Jameson Whiskey until this board. However, I assume that the whiskey is named after someone named "Jameson." Thank you to everyone who offered support. I appreciate it. |
| Jameson is a lovely, strong, cool name. I like Scott and Daniel as well, OP. |
Just so you are prepared, teenage boys live to be disrespectful to each other. It is their primary mode of communication. Name your kid whatever you like, but don't say you weren't warned. He WILL get the whiskey comments all the time. Depending on his personality and his ability to handle the shot boys give each other nonstop, he will either get an affectionate nickname or he will be mocked. |
This is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Being mocked because he shares a name with a brand of whiskey? If anything at all, he'll get a high five. It's not like they're naming him Tampax or Vagisil or something. |
| Irish or Whiskey. Are you a total douchebag, OP? |
| I love the name Jameson! It is my son's middle name a ND an old family name for us. These whiskey comments are hilarious. It was a name before the whiskey lol |
| According to PP's, should I think of whiskey too when I hear the name Jack or Daniel? OP, you might want to go with Scott then - 2 whiskey related names might be a bit much. Sorry. |
|
OP, I'm sure that parents who name their children Brandi and Chardonnay use your argument re: the alcohol reference. I mean, "Brandi" is probably not named for alcohol, but for a song or a family member. "Chardonnay" is probably named for a family member or a region in France. Does this change people's perception of these names and the sort of mothers who give their children these names? No.
The beauty of this website is that you get to read the honest reactions of people. I promise you that many of your friends, your son's future friends and teachers, and his business associates when he is older are going to have the same reactions you are reading here. Just go with James. |
Brandy/i and Chardonnay are stripper names as are Tequila and Alize. And I cannot believe that anyone would associate the Biblical name "Daniel" with Jack Daniels. I had no idea there were so many people who associated names with liquor store/brands. What about the names Samuel, Adam, Jim and Bailey? |
Who said anything about Samuel, Adam, Jim, and Bailey? Those names are fine. "Sam Adams", "Jim Beam", or "Bailey's Irish" would be akin to "Chardonnay", "Jameson", and "Brandi", though. |
