Cops being proactive. Some nutjob has gotten people upset and they just want to know who it is and talk to him before fired up folks from the community get a hold of his ass and next thing you know homicide detectives being called onto the scene.

If he's on private property, that's reason as well

No, you are wrong. Random people deliver fliers to your door all the time without breaking the law, especially restaurant menus where I live. You'd have to have one of those "No Solicitors" signs.

They leave them in the flag of my mailbox at the bottom of the driveway. Even if they didn't, someone traipsing on your property gives you the right to notify law enforcement. It doesn't mean it's an offense, but that person can, at least, be questioned due to suspicious behavior in the neighborhood.

Do think the cops are going to come running for that? Well, if it's Chevy Chase, maybe they have nothing else to do.

I had an antisemitic flyer left on my front steps a couple of weeks ago, along with the steps of a few neighbors. Among other things, it said Jews were in on 9/11 and most Jews were suspiciously absent from work at the World Trade Center that day. This is in NW DC.

If I call an officer due to suspicious activity, yes they do show. Perhaps Virginia officers aren't as callous.

Please forgive me if I'm mistaken, but are certain posts getting deleted from this thread?

Anonymous wrote:""Remove each and every Jew from state and federal governments and financial organizations" "Jews destroy the US financially": I am not sure what type of actual viewpoint the flyer is promoting (if not the type Nazis and Italian fascists had - people attacked only based on their ethnicity (not just religion, since being atheists or Catholics did not save many people of Jewish ancestry from the gas chambers). you are also wrong that this type of flyers do not promote violence (look at the various white supremacist sites where attacks against Jews are justified as a sort of self defense against alleged actions by "Jews" working to bankrupt the US and its citizen). I don't see it as more justified than Geller at all, just two pieces of junk."

It appears to me that someone is not dividing the issue clearly enough. Pamela Geller is pointing out that some Moslems have used violence against what is humorous. She is quite correct in noticing that. Using an approach that needlessly inflames hatred or puts people who are not directly concerned at risk is a foolish error, but not much more.

Anti-Semitism is quite ugly stuff. It is fundamentally wrong. By itself it is inflammatory. It should certainly be noted and discouraged. I am inclined to name and shame those who do such things. I would also note that while it is a central tenet of some forms of Islam, it is very widespread and by no means limited to Moslems.
There are crazy people all over the place these days, doing wierd things..at least we know who the flyer guy is, as opposed to the sneaky people online.

You're calling the cops for an old white-haired man dropping a flyer on your driveway? How about a kid dropping a candy wrapper?

Perhaps we should save the anti-Semitic card for real anti-Semitism, not some sad, confused, mentally ill old man dropping a flyer on your driveway.

No, I think we should use anti-semitism for content which is actually anti-semitic. This case qualifies.

What does not qualify? Criticism of the politics of Israel.

Funny how no one wants to expose the full content of the "anti-Semitism." Apparently there's something there to hide. Op really should have been more forthcoming, and allow posters to see for themselves what she was making reference to. But she isn't the only one here who could post the full content.
