"you'll never guess what I bought for my granddaughter...

My mom got breast cancer and moved into our master bedroom last year a month after I had a baby. And I love having her nearby, despite the close quarters and the circumstances. She has some boundary issues and we have no privacy, but she was a professor and our 1st grader has yet to get less than an A on a spelling test all year. Our toddler has an excellent vocabulary (they sit in the bed and read for hours). She splurges on things like dried cherries and smoked gouda at the store. Be grateful for the little things, OP. My mom wishes this was all the other way around and she was able to take care of us. Soon my mom will probably get her own place and I know we need it to happen, but darn it's nice to sleep in bc Grandma woke up with the kids or take a nap on a Saturday while DH is out bc there is a third adult. Also eff you. My mom has cancer (not dead though - hugs to everyone missing their moms).

Meh. My MIL always had a baby bedroom when my kids were little. Convenient for occasional babysitting. You should be glad she went to the trouble.
