However, how could she enter Syria with a US passport? There are check points between Syria and Turkey. There is no way the guards which stop every car at each checkpoint would let her pass through unless she represented a well established organization. She was indeed in Israel, then Turkey and Syria -- very difficult, almost impossible to do it independently unless she was a freelance international journalist. |
Her prior political protest activity in Israel apparently followed in the footsteps of many U.S. leftists who have vowed to take action in Israel (many vow non-violence).

In any event, her death is a terrible tragedy and further evidence in support of the United States decision to take action against IS.
